Smile CUP RIMs for 964 (91)

Afer a couple of month of marquet survey and study, I finally bought my C4. Now time is coming to do light modifications...

I am looking for CUP rims for my 91 911 C4.
What do I need to know ? Are the original in 16" ?
What is the difference between factory and replica ?
Where to buy them ?

Philippe, the C4 newbie

The '92 to '94 C2 and C4 came standard with them. They were 7X17 55 offset front and 8X17 52 offset rear. The '91 C2 Turbo came with 7X17 front and 9X17 rear. These will fit your car also.

If you put them on your car, I believe the earlier C2 and C4 require stops for the steering rack to avoid rubbing tires in the fenderwell.

The Replicas and Factory wheels are both made in Italy. They are very slightly different in appearance. The spokes on the factory wheels are a little rounder, while the replicas spokes are a bit squarer. It is very subtle. They weigh the same, despite what many people think. I've personally weighed several sets side by side, and they are identical in weight.

The plus side for the replicas is that you can get them in 7.5" for the front and 9" for the rear. You can get Factory 7.5" wheels for the front, but they are 65 offset, so the are set farther inboard. They came on the 968. I have them on the front of my C2 with 1/8th in spacers. The spacers aren't really necessary though.

You can buy the Replicas from the Tire Rack. Or check E-Bay for used Factory wheels.

I can't speak for the C4, but as far as I can tell, my C2 (a '90, as per my sig) has no such stops fitted, and there're no rubbing problems. The C4 has more stuff up front, though, so your mileage may vary.

There are also the factory one piece Speedline Carrera Cup wheels that are 8Jx17ET55 and 9.5Jx17ET68. They fit narrow body Carrera but require a spacer and longer studs in the rear. These were used on the Carrera 2 Cup cars. Rare.

yeah our '92 cup car has the wider ones... in '93 they went to a 18" with a 275 on the back...

doubt you'll be able to find the wide ones.
