Check valve or lack of

Having an issue with hot starts and I just decided to replace the external check valve. Upon removing I found the valve was completely hollow. Has anyone seen this? I tried contacting the PO but no answer. I was wondering if this is a performance thing or something to that affect. Is there a check valve somewhere else in the system or in the pump. Any suggestions?

There are two types of fuel pumps, ones with external check valves and ones with internal check valves. The ones with internal check valves have long necks on the output side where the check valve resides. Those fuel pumps have an adapter fitting between the pump and the output fuel line equipped with a banjo fitting. It looks like the fitting in your picture. But I thought the pumps with internal check valves were only used in earlier 911s like 1978/1979.

Fuel pump identification........

Tom,

The first thing you should do is identify what FP you have on your car. The part number and brand of the FP would help identify the specific information about it. If you have a Bosch type rotary FP, look at the manufacturer's technical bulletin and find out if it has an internal check valve or not. The part you showed in the picture is not a check valve. Do you know the brand and part number of the FP? Keep us posted.

It is a Pierburg pump. It says pierburg on the rubber boot but no part number. Maybe that is under the rubber boot.

Picture attached.
