Fuel Pump Check Valve
Well I was having hot start problems so I went for the most expensive first.... the accumulator. that did nothing for the hot start problem. I went to the Porsche dealer and ordered a check valve for the fuel pump. I took the pump out of the car and I have the internal check valve model. I removed the fitting in the end of the pump and installed the external check valve that I bought from Porsche. I am tell this story because you have an additional part to install that isnt mention in all the threads about this check valve. This is the end cap that goes on the end of the new check valve and secures the banjo fitting to the check valve. It is M 12X 1.5 and our host sells them for four bucks and change. My car does not have a hot start problem anymore.

Bob,
Thanks for the great tip. I'm having a hot start problem, so I'll try the check valve before I buy an accumulator. Unfortunately it'll be a few months before I know if it works. I'm starting down a long list of things to do while the engine is out of my car (Tranny rebuild, oil leak fixes, new injectors, valves adjusted, new clutch). Jeff |

A local trusted German car mechanic says he has seen only one bad fuel accumulator in nearly three decades of wrenching. I wonder, since I myself have seen one. the one I found had a screw plug at the bottom. removed the plug and gasoline came out. And some folks here have sworn that they found bad accumulators.
Still, I'd assume the FA is okay until I knew better. The FP check valve is a better place to start troubleshooting. Everybody's seen bad check valves.
