89 Carrera - 4 Electrical Questions

1. Engine compartment lid - correct it only lights up when parking/headlights are on? Mine works this way. I think I saw this referenced in a couple responses when searching.

2. Dome / interior lights. Seem intermittent on door opening. Work fine when pushed to the side, middle option seems to work on and off when doors are opened. Is the normal issue here the pin switch on the door jam? I did find some schematics here but will take me some time to dig into them. Need to break out the volt meter and trace this but would like common starting point.

3. Seatbelt light on dash / ignition key buzzer / key buzzers don't seem to be working. Buzzer maybe related to the door switch, but the seatbelt warning is probably the plug on the receptacle?

4. There are 2 wires, that look OEM, brown and brown with white, with spade type connectors near the fuel filter on the left/drivers side of the engine. I cannot easily see what these connect to. Any ideas?

Thank you!

For #1; yes
#2 Here is a test; with the dome in the middle position and after the car has been running do the following:
a) after you shut the car off , dont open any door
b) try the window switch up and down, it should open and close the windows.
c) now open the drivers door and observe if the dome light turns on, then close it.
d) If the dome light turned on and all is OK the windows now shouldnt work anymore.
e) if the dome did not turn on, the windows should still work up and down.
The window relay gets a signal from the jam switch that the door has been opened and shuts the power to the window switches.
Scenario e) can cause a slowly draining battery, the relay stays active waiting for the signal to cut the power.
#3 Could impact item #3 but others will have the answer.
#4 Not sure either but mine has them too , I thought for the rear window wiper.

Ah, good call. At least a confirmation of someone else with same non-connected wires. At first I thought it was for the engine compartment light as it wasn't operating, until I turned on the headlights!

And thanks for checklist on the interior lights. Will give that a go

Ok on:
1 - confirmed it works fine with vehicle lights
2 - fixed this. Need new rubber boot. Pulled boot off and it ripped. And then driver light started working and the feature you describe above with the windows started to work. Will pull both switches clean and spray with deoxit
3 - need to dig into this more
4 - haven't looked any further. Just odd 2 spade connections sitting ther. My car was not optioned with rear wipe. No switch in cabin.

#3 - make certain the buzzer/relay is still in place. Many people have removed these over the years. On my '84, the empty socket where it was located in behind the fuel/oil level gauge.

Thank you. Need to poke my head under seat to see if the plug on the belt receptacle is pulled or hard wired. Relay was my next question!

Last thing to track down is the parking lights controlled by the turn signal. Need to test again but looks like this is not working. Not that I need this but the OCD in me wants it to work :-)

Well my buzzer is there, it works now on turning on ignition, but no seatbelt light. Still need to dig into this one. Pulled both door pins an cleaned them, used deoxit on them, put back in with new rubber seal. Interior lights, window on/off, working as expected. So does alarm. And buzzer.
