Glue for lenses

Hi to all,

I'm in the process of replacing the lenses on my 68 and was wondering what would be the best glue/sealant to use? I've tried "super glue" (ca) on a scrap piece but it leaves a white film; I won't be able to clean it off on the inside... The previous owners seem to have used hot melt glue on one side and there was the black stuff used for windshield in the other!

Thanks!

You will need new lenses but a two part epoxy, clear, would be the best until then.

Check for acrylic adhesive on Google. It is a very viscous clear liquid that needs to be applied with a hypodermic needle onto the cracks. It then soaks into the cracks quickly and cures fast. The liquid actually dissolves the material slightly in the crack surfaces and thereby fuses the parts together.

Try that stuff they use for windshield glass repair. I'll be willing to bet that will work and it's really clear.

i just used a product from ace hardware called Seal All. It had a fast tack time and dried not quite clear, a little cloudy. Might be worth a look.

This is what I referred to. I got the Acrylic glue on the internet and the hypodermic squeeze bottle at a hardware store. Caution: Do not touch any whetted parts because your finger prints will be a permanent part of the glued part.
