Heat flappers connections, disconnect?

Hi. I have an 83 911SC with manual heat controls and delivery of unwanted heat. I know my heat flappers are rusted out and need to be replaced. Although the downward facing vents are wide open, I can see that the inner values are not fully closing. In order to get thru the summer, I've disconnected the hoses at the ex-changer end and not the flapper end. Does anyone out there see a problem with this?

Can I suggest closing up the vents. I used the lids of two aerosol cans to do this

You can also block the inlets in the footwells if you don't want to muck with the flappers, or they're stuck "on". I used aluminum tape.

There is no problem having open flappers. Just watch for critters...
