Fuel filler neck foam seal - where does it go?

Hi,

I have cleaned up the fuel filler neck area on my '80 SC. The PET Shows that there is a foam seal (911.201.095.00) where the neck enters the luggage compartment.
I have ordered the seal for the re-assembly, but I have no clue how exactly it has to be installed. Any pictues or ideas?

Thanks, Manfred

When you get it you'll see that it has a slot in it that fits around the inner fender.....

Thanks for bringing this up!! I was doing some work on my fuel evap system; the foam seal was hard as a rock and just crumbled. Just ordered one (the last one in stock) from out sponsor.

It goes in a large circular opening in the inner trunk panel where the filler tube passes through the panel.

The pictures below show the location on my '73. It's just under and behind the brake reservoir and just forward of the hood hinge.
The second picture shows it in place with the filler tube installed.

You will need to separate the filler tube from the tank to get the seal over it. The seal is a closed ring.
