Modified 964 Bad idle
 
Hi Guys been a long time reader for over ten years, however I have just built up a hottie 964 engine with 993 super cup cams light fly je pistons SSI exhaust Cargraphic muffler etc. The car used to idle before all the mods were done, it currently has a steve w chip that was made for sports exhaust k & N filter. Im located in Australia, and I am having issues getting the correct info regarding idle control. I dont have a Bosch hammer so how do I go about setting up the idle control. After all the work carried out on this car over the past 2 years this is one of the last bugs to solve. Any help to would be great guys. I have a similar engine, hopefully I will not have the same problem.

Yes I did and was told to get another chip re programmed by him, however I'm going to try the idle adaptation process 1st. It seems there is some dark secret behind setting up the 964 idle and you need this plug and that plug I can't see how it's that hard.........

Found this with a Google search, don't know if it will help, but can't hurt. LOL:


DME control module
With all DME systems, the engine must run for several minutes before the engine control module can relearn the idle speed and mixture adaptation values!
After disconnection of the power supply, the idle speed might change or fluctuate briefly until the throttle valve adjusting unit has been readapted.
The mixture adaptation is also lost.

After the battery is connected:
With the DME, it is necessary to carry out a learning and adaptation routine as described below:
Switch ignition on for 30 seconds without starting the engine.
Do not actuate accelerator pedal.
This completes the adaptation of the throttle valve adjusting unit.

Ok plugged a Bosch hammer in and found no Comms so back the drawing board, has anybody out there heard of jumping the a/c idle output to raise the idle just a thought...... Maybe some 1 out there has done this.

low idle on a 3.6 is usually associated w/ a vacuum leak, the cams you have will compound the issue as they already induce a lumpier idle.

pin 4 & 52 are the idle signals
pin 53 is full throttle signal
pin 39 & 54 are the coding plug, for an O sensor equipped car these should be open ie not grounded and not + voltage

pin 40 & 41 are the AC

Do yourself a favor and get a better flowing exhaust, the SSI's strangle a stock 964 as the revs build the more restrictive they get relative to the engine's potential

If the Hammer can't get a signal there is an issue w/ pin 13 L wire and or pin 55 the k wire or a ground, L, K & grd are the lines for diagnotics
