Odd "pulse" in steering
 

Can't seem to find a thread on this issue. Car is '88 Carrera, 200k miles new turbo tie rods, ball joints, original front shocks and tires are fairly old but no odd wear. Car tracks dead straight. Here is issue. at slow speed with wheel turned slightly left I get an occasional "pulsing" in the steering wheel.
Any idea what could be the cause or what I should check?

Could be one of the brake calipers not retracting the piston completely which will cause a vibration.

Does it occur after applying the brakes and then turning left?

Pulsing.
 

Any thoughts about your front wheel bearings?

How old are they?

I did mine @ 104K miles, without braking car was pulling to the right.

Thanks for the suggestions. The front bearings MAY be original, as are the brake calipers. Forgot to mention that pads and rotors are also new (less than year old). As best as I can recall it occurs in really slow driving and seems to be mostly, if not always, on left turns. The calipers, I believe have never been refurbished...maybe that's the culprit? I have snugged up the front wheel bearings a couple of times...maybe they are just worn out?

was the car realigned after the extensive front end work?

id expect you'd have moved things around some and may now have a bit of a bind in the steering linkage from the rack up thru the trunk area to the wheel. there are a number of u-joints in the linkage chain. it's been said if you loosen them all and tap things around some, run the wheel from lock to lock a couple times, then roll the car a foot or so each way to settle the suspension & steering, retighten all the U joints back up cures much. that song & dance got an irritating little click in my steering after suspension work and an aggressive alignment. to go away

Here are a few "hints" which put me in the direction of the front wheel bearings.

You can also check for bearing "play" by moving the wheel l/r and up/down.

I took the hubs to a local machine shop and had the races pressed in.

Did the rest myself.

Well have to say I did do an alignment and the car seems to ride perfectly otherwise. I'm thinking it makes sense to focus on wheel bearings at this point.
