MFI Watershields - Any Interest?
I have a few projects on the go involving fiberglass (Molds of the vintage buckets for one) and was wondering if anyone would be interested in a small run of watershield style air filter assemblies for cars with MFI.
I'm thinking of: - Translucent amber finish for a 'period correct' look (could do carbon if interested) - 'Drip lip' around the MFI cutout area that clears the pump - Probably designed to use K&N's (unless someone has a better idea) - Priced at less than the steel set-up for carbs Let me know if you are interested or have any ideas you'd like to see incorporated. Regards, Andrew M

Keep me in the loops too.. I'd love a set of PROPER watershields for my MFI setup.

The translucent ones sound great. Carbon would be of no interest. I have an early system that uses the drip-type cold start mechanism. I would need a way of integrating that.

Chris-
I think the '72 and '73 pumps had a different cold start system. -Scott

I'll get a couple of prototypes together over the next week or so and let you know the results.
Thanks! Andrew M

Those are nice - I'm hoping for more of a vintage feel with the amber resin, although I would also do the carbon for people.
As well the tops would have to be re-worked a bit for the MFI system (the main reason most MFI engines have the original setup still). Thanks for the comments! Regards, Andrew M

Hey! Thanks for doing this. I wasn't trying to scew your interest with my CF watershield post.
Keep us posted on the development. I think the amber resin colored filter housings will be awesome. I always am happy to see someone providing a much-needed solution for the Porsche community! Regards, Karl

I had been considering doing this myself but it would be a learning experience since i have little experience with fiberglass.
One thing i had considered was using the K&N filters but squeezing them a tad to make them more like 4.5"x13" instead of 12x5". The purpose is too avoid the barometric cell on the pump. My filter bumps it slightly and deforms the filter. Granted, it is not a huge deal, but i figure if you're gonna do it..... I was also gonna do away with the hood and just do a cap type deal. It is VERY rare that i drive in the rain. Input and insults welcomed as always. PT

Andrew,
I would be interested as well. 70 S with original MFI. Has interference with K&N baseplate on left side in two places, by the fuel lines - NNE corner looking from back, and the microswitch actuating arm - SSW corner. I am up for the amber resin look, or whatever, as long as it does not require MFI mods... Keep us posted., and thanks..
