pop out window spacer, "desk pad" dimensions
Does anyone have the white triangular spacer for the pop out window latches laying around? I need some rough but decent dimensions for it (especially thickness).
Don't have any for my windows that I'm putting in, don't want to pay $20+ and wait a week for some plastic spacers, so I'm gonna make some up myself instead. Thanks! |
A bit of searching brings up "about a quarter of an inch", is that close enough? Do they need to be exact to seal the window? Has anyone played with varying the thickness to help the window seal on our handmade, often out of shape cars?

I would suggest that you install the windows first and determine then if the deskpads are needed.
These were not installed on all cars with operating rear side windows. Not sure why. Probably related to the same processes that produced variances in body structure from side to side. My car didn't have them originally, but I added them when I did my restoration. The result was that the closure was way too tight. Enough so that I worried about cracking the glass or breaking the latch -- either of which will ruin your day. If you are using new seals, I'd say it is unlikely that you will need the desk pads. |
New seals all around, but I daily drive my car, sometimes in the rain, so it's gotta seal well.
Didn't know that not all cars had them, looks like fabbing something up by hand based on need is the way to go. Seems like some 1/4 white poly cut to shape then sanded down incrementally until the window is firm is the solution. |
I converted my SC to pop out windows and found that the passenger side didn't need them and the driver's side didn't. I originally used washers to put it in tight enough, then found that our host sells the spacers, so I bought 3 or 4. They aren't that expensive and they aren't that thick. If they are more than an 1/8", I'd be surprised.

Same size as the piece they go under.

Ok -- I found my old ones:
3.7 mm thick -- a little over 1/8 inch. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1436404229.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1436404299.jpg Here's one in place: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1436404365.jpg |

And where do I get matching (longer) screws? |

You used to be able to open the parts in a new page and get the link for the specific part, but the catalog is different now. As far the longer bolts, my car didn't come with pop-out windows, I converted it. So mine is a little custom, therefore I'm not using OEM bolts. I just measured the length I needed and bought appropriate length stainless steel bolts at the hardware store. |
