A way to plug heater duct

I'm very excited to share what I think is a very cool and tidy way to plug your heater duct when you don't want to use your heater blower. I will be installing headers, so heat is useless. +2 horsepower because of the red top!

What's the complete name/brand.......

Sniper,

I've been looking for a 2-1/2" freeze plug with a wing nut like yours. What's the brand name of your plug? The wing nut is covering it. Where did you get it? Thanks.

Tony

Nice idea. That's called a test plug. Plumbers use them to temporarily seal off drain systems in order to pressure test for leaks. I have seen them in hardware stores. I'm sure Amazon has plenty.

I did something similar with a rubber cap for a PVC sewage pipe in the smuggler's box AC hole.

Tony,

The brand is Oatey - they're known for plumbing products. Looks like it's available at home depot.

Thanks guys! I scoured Lowe's plumbing department for something. They sell rubber end caps that probably would have worked, but this test cap makes a nice snug fit. Also very cool is the plastic collar within the duct near the opening. It is designed to keep the duct from collapsing when hose clamps are torqued around it. I used a clamp to keep the Oatey plug from spinning around. You can't see it, but I also cut a thin band of rubber and wrapped it around the duct to give the hose clamp something to bite into.

+2 HP..?

Other than more cooling air for the engine I don't see any real benefit.

Explain?

Very creative!! Just shorten the hose clamp and 'hide' it behind the duct...

Peruse the shopping aisles at your neighborhood grocery store with ruler in hand. There might be a can of beans with the correct dimensions. A store that carries institutional size can goods might offer more selection (e.g. Smart and Final).

Paint to match the surroundings. Might blend in more than the plumbing plug.
BTW, beer cans (your brand choice) are the ideal size to block the hot air ducts coming off of the air shroud (early 911).

Note: Do not block air flow to heat exchangers.

The same way you get added HP by painting your brake calipers red...everyone know that.

"Red" horsepower can't be verified on a dyno.
Everyone knows the real gains come from chrome and stickers!
