Need help to identify this model BBS
Hi, First time post.
I just bought a '74 911 with a steel wide body. The BBS wheels on it are unusual. I've seen my share of BBS wheels (I'm 58). Tried to find similar pic on the web. Nothing.(Currently have '76 w/'82 3.0, Carrera Flares), So let the pic's speak for themselves.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1436326479.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1436326503.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1436326533.jpg As you can see that it has unusual offset. 12"x 15", Front is similar. Any help is greatly appreciated. Asking because I want to replace tires with PZeros 335/35/15 and 225/50/15 as the originals are P7's from back in the day. Also car was from a private collection and stored since '96. It's in great shape, no rust. And the car was located only 60 miles away from my house. Cheers, Andy |
Can't remember the model designation, but those are some older BBS Racing 3-piece wheels. No drop for tire mounting - the wheels must be disassembled to change the tires. As I recall, there is an aluminum plate with o-rings sandwiched between the rim halves. New o-rings may be difficult to find.
Hated these wheels when I worked in tires. |

rgofast (Rod) here on the forums could give you some additional tips about these wheels. He restores BBS wheels.

Now, why you need to take apart the wheel in order to replace the tire??
|
To change a tire on a normal wheel, you push one side of the tire bead down into a well (or "drop center" in the middle of the rim, which allows just enough room to stretch the bead over the rim edge.
These wheels are essentially flat in the middle, no drop or well. So you can't stretch the tire bead off the rim. |
BBS E52 is the model. are they for sale?
