Bilstein sports still seem soft -

Hey gang

I just got my 3.2 Targa back from my mechanic.

We did Bilstein HD fronts and Sport rears and the front feels as I'd expect -- much tighter than my shot 30 year old inserts and tough to compress with a tight rebound.

The rears feel better than the shot suspension but still quite soft and the rear is sitting somewhat high.

Thoughts? It drives 10 times better than before and squats less and even the acceleration response is notably better so are my expectations just wrong?

My mechanic was a bit confused as well -- his 934 build runs stock rubber bushings and sports and is so much tighter.

Is it torsions?

Thanks

Weak bars would sag not raise the rear.

Bilsteins always jack the height up a bit. His 934 project probably does have larger diameter torsion bars than your carrera.

So I have an '89 which I think has stiffer bars than the earlier cars (it's also more porky) and put sports all around. Its Way better than my blown out boge but still "soft" to me. This is so subjective, I'm used to riding around in my RS with 800lb springs and the ohlins cranks way tight.

Anyway, i like the way it rides and feels, good balance for 'mildly' sporting street use.

When I installed mine the front and rear jacked up a bit, they settled some but car is going in for full alignment and corner balance in a few weeks.

If you want a stiffer ride you need bigger torsion bars. The shocks only control bounce and rebound. Yes new ones will give a slightly stiffer feel but will not transform your ride.

I was also surprised to see the car sitting higher after installing new Bilstein rear sport shocks. Fortunately I had some adjustment left in the spring plates not to have to reindex the tbars. Adjusting the rear ride height car be a pita. I was even checking out coil over kits from Rebel Racing but never pulled the trigger. I'm still running the original front sport inserts. They seem ok but probably do need to get replaced. I have the stock tbars but did install f&r wm 22mm anti-sway bars. This stiffened the ride some but improved corner handling big-time.
