Baked Nuts

Got some new wheels and had some old nuts. Building a powder coating oven is 2-3 weeks out, so I thought I'd see what I could do with paint and make them as durable as possible.

Nuts tumbled. Had a few other things in the bowl, these Schnoor washers threaded right in. What are the chances?

Washed them with hot soap and water to get all the dust out of the threads, then rolled around in some brake cleaner to dry. Threaded each one on a hub to make sure the threads were clean.

Lined up ready for paint. I decided to use flat black high heat engine paint for the first coat.

Then baked them at 250F for 30, cool, 400 for 30, cool and 500 for 30. Directions said 600F but my oven went to 500.

Then I shot them with 7777 and baked for 30 at 250F to help cure them and take off some of the gloss.

Finished, very happy with the results. I won't be able to test durability until this weekend.

PS - based on the thread title, I though this was going to be an a/c modification thread!!!

I just did the fronts on my car. I got just a slight marking from torquing them but not bad.

Btw, I could see this thread making a terrible turn, but I won't be the one to do it.

Ha! Excellent! Remember that I needed a whole case of super-sized bottles in order to get relief!?!?

Bob K. only required a drop or two!!!

It's a confident man who knows how to handle his nuts and talk about it.

They look great, Shaun. Can't wait to hear about durability.

Those nuts look great. I think we are all Nuts. LOL

Here are some tips converting an old stove to a powder coating furnace.

Engelbert's Garage - Oven

After installing the PID the oven actually made it to 600 deg F.

Cheers
Engelbert

Thanks Mark, these are the only nuts I know, so I'm an expert on them. Others, those I have no idea. I too am looking forward to a durability test. I'm not sure if I'm going wuss out and use a swatch of fabric over each, or line my socket with e- tape. We'll see.

Thanks Englebert, I'll take a look at what you've built. I want to build a small "room" as an oven so I can powder coat anything. Will offer a service once I can reliably coat anything 911 with excellent results.

I was afraid the post may be referring to malfunctioning seat heaters!
