hand brake removal
I am trying to remove the handbrake lever on 82SC to replace broken "contact bow" (strip that helps trigger the brake warning light). The problem is that after removing the nut and round washer, I cannot remove the large heater lever washer I've colored pink in the attached pic (ignore the red circle - I copied this pic from one I found in a search). It is blocked by the metal housing (part where pink circle is not continuous). I don't see how to get the handbrake lever out without removing the heater levers since they seem to use a common through bolt. Is there a trick to this? thanks

I faced the exact problem for the exact same reason--replacing the contact for the e-brake. On my 73.5 there is only one heating lever that is connected to both flapper valves by a common wire. I didn't want to disconnect the wire from the valves so my only solution was to remove the red knob from the lever, remove the bolts and washers at the pivot, and slide the lever through the slot in the base. Problem was, the knob was gashed up a bit during removal, but I was able to replace it and it holds, but a new knob is in the future. Someone else may know of another way to remove the brake handle, or better yet, remove the knob without destroying it. If so, I hope they chime in as I would love to know also.

How do you remove the centre pinion in order to release the heater lever. Mine apprears stuck solid and I can't work it out from the parts diagram. Thanks ![]() ![]() ![]()

Knock it out from the right side. It's just rusted a little bit.

Javadog. Spot on. I ended up finding a nice replacement from the local wrecker for 70 bucks but did follow your advice and hit it harder once I had it out of the car and supported in a vice. Non recoverable bolt now which is now NA according to our host. The replacement I found moves nicely, not stuck at all.
Cheers

Hello! Doing this job (replacement of the contact bow) on a '75 911S.
I have the small rivets and washers -- anyone have some insight on how to install them w/ the bow? Seems like the bow is in the way of just smashing down the rivets. |
