Early seat slider safety stop

Hi everybody. Has anyone successfully removed AND reinstalled the stop that's riveted in between the inner and outer pieces of the seat slider?

I want to re-plate the seat hardware. I have removed the seats from the car and the sliders from the seats. But I cannot get the two pieces of the slider apart because of the stop that's riveted into the sliders. The stop prevents the inner slider piece from sliding completely out of the outer piece.

Obviously Porsche thought this stop was an important safety feature. Otherwise, in a rear end collision, the only thing holding the seat in place would be the two teeth on the ratchet which is only on the inside seat mount.

I can drill out the rivet, but then I'd have to use a pop rivet to reinstall it, and a pop rivet doesn't seem strong enough.

Any advise is appreciated.

Steve
