HELP - R&R DME, car won't start and injectors seem to run with key on...

So I was investigating the pinging I have been surfering from in my new (to me) 89 911. I pulled the DME to see if/what kind of chip was in it, and heeding the advice on Steve Wong's site, to adjust the fuel quality switch (FQS) as an interim measure to fight the pinging.

All went well except....the car cranks fine but won't fire...AND I hear this new noise with key on. Seems like the injectors are firing, which is strange as I did not think they should unless the car was cranking. I even removed the DME a second time and set the FQS back to 0 again (had switched it to 5 to fight the ping). Never heard this noise until now.

What could this be?

This is a WAG, but feel the ICV. it's just a guess, but it sounds like it is being slammed opened and closed.

After pulling the seat and DME back out, I put the FQS switch back to 0, plugged it all back in and and the same problem. Atleast this time I was smart enough not to put he seat back in too. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/burn.gif

So I took the DME back AGAIN, and sprayed some CRC contact cleaner in the plug, wiped the excess off, plugged it back in...and the car started just fine. Then I adjusted the FQS back to 5, and the car still worked fine.......even after buttoning it all up. Problem solved, guess it was just bad contacts that needed a little love.
