Air Restrictor Valve - Where?

I’ve been having rough idle issues since I originally purchased my 85 930. I read a recent post regarding the Air Restrictor Valve and it peaked my curiosity. So I decided to pull my Air Box last night and to my surprise I couldn't find this device. So before I place an order for this part I have a couple of questions….

Does anyone have a photo of a 930 Air Restrictor Valve? Can someone describe in detail where it should be located? If it’s not installed, can this cause a considerable vacuum leak?

From looking at PET, it appears as if it sits between the Oil Reservoir vent port and the hose to the air box. Does that sound accurate? Does it actually sit inside the Oil Reservoir vent pipe?

short metal funnel thing #93010728900 sits inside hose #27 from pet I believe, your Ruf may be different, but I think that valve helps prevent oil blow back. Missing that part in itself won't necessarily create a vac leak.

I've just changed that hose on my own car and the restrictor is located inside the hose. You may already have one in there. Take off the hose (at the oil tank) and look into the end, it should be located about 1" up the hose. If it's not there, the chances are that someone has replaced the hose not knowing about it.

David,

That's what I suspect happened. The hose isn't a factory hose the restrictor is absent.

I’ll definitely pick up a new hose and restrictor in the near future. I was hoping it would solve my idle issue but it appears that it’s more for preventing oil from getting into the air box.

I know, it is a super old thread from 2005, but I would like to add the following information about the Air Restrictor Valve:
If the valve is missing and you check the oil level with running engine, as you are supposed to do, the engine will die as soon you will open the oil cap. Only with the restrictor in place the engine RPMs will slightly drop, but it will keep running, so you can check the oil level.
