Calling All Philly Area Pelicans!

Gentlemen (and potentially ladies)

I recently moved to the Philly area and was sans Porsche for some time. But the nice weather and a change in job has allowed me to break the 911 out of hibernation for the summer (and hopefully forever). This of course can only mean one thing, Porsche Gatherings!

For those of you that have followed some of my other threads I had a great group of fellow Porsche Owners in NY. We frequently gathered for drives and many of us became good friends over the years. I would like to build this same kind of family here in the Philly area. All this being said who in the area would be in for a gathering? I am familiar with the area a bit but I'm sure many of you know the good roads far better than I do. Center City seems tough for a meet up as parking is limited so I would be inclined to do something outside of the city and am open to suggestions for meeting points. I am thinking about putting something together for one of the later weekends in April, I know many of you are still getting your cars out from storage so if we have to wait until may we will.

So who's interested?

Regards
Dave

I'm in! I live in center city but, keep my 81 911 in jersey. I'm just getting it ready now for the nice weather. A drive out to The Whip could be a good time. Rural twisty roads and great food afterwards... The Whip Tavern

Ah, Dave spreading transplanted good will from the Empire State to the City of Brotherly Love.

Count me in too, though the engine is currently out of my '87. Hopefully she'll be back together before long.

I'm in central Jersey, but only 45 minutes from Philly...

Word to the wise, don't wear your Rangers jersey to the Wells Fargo Center...I've done it, but I'm 6' 5" 245lbs and was much younger at the time.

I'm up near Quakertown - is that to far away? Hershey in a couple weekends and the cars and coffee at Steelstacks in Bethlehem is pretty good.

I travel quite a bit for work, which keeps me away some weekends, but I'd love to be kept in the loop for some drives, etc. I'm in the Melrose/ Elkins Park area. Planning on heading out to Hershey as well.

Well it sounds like there is quite a bit of interest here which is great! It looks like Hershey is not this weekend but the following weekend (the 18th). I will plan to head there for the day on saturday and would love to get a group drive to head out from Philly. If someone can suggest a meeting spot it might be fun to drive out there together.

Lets make this the first group drive, Philly -> Hershey, Saturday the 19th, who's in?

Regards
Dave

I'm moving to the area in about two months. Could you tell me more about Cars and Coffee at Steelstacks.

Dave, I'd be interested if you have anything planned for after June.

Actually, Hershey is Saturday the 19th.

RTR does a big drive from Philly. They are meeting at the AMC theater in King of Prussia.

I haven't gone with them as I'm already up near I-78, and I leave earlier.

If you don't belong to the PCA you might consider it - RTR is a very active region.

Steelstacks Cars and Coffee has a Facebook page. It's April 27th this month - first one after winter. They get a huge turnout for a couple hours on Sunday morning. Very relaxed - show up when you want, park and look around, leave when you want. A huge variety of cars (including some very exotic stuff, and a lot of very common stuff).
I got turned on to it by my son's friends - all college age. They are my "hooligans" - they bring 60's Fords, air cooled Beetles and vintage BMWs.

There is a Cars and Coffee in Dillworthtown that makes a good meeting point. Also, somewhere out near the Main Line in Newtown Square could work too.

What time is everyone trying to get there? I read doors are at 7am. I'm looking forward to seeing the morning traffic.

Welcome! I am excited for all the Philly Porsche love..! Unfortunately I am still rebuilding my engine (slippery slope and loving it) so I am not driving these days. I wanted to mention that I just noticed there is a Riesentoter PCA happy hour Thurs the 17th in downtown Philly..

I just saw that as well, although I'm not a member yet (gonna join tonight) I think I can make it to that, could be a nice way to meet people.

Regards
Dave

I dont need to be there when doors open, I think I may try to tag along with the PCA group going from KOP. If there are enough CC people I would be happy to set up a group from CC.

Regards
Dave

Whip is a pretty nice drive, and I certainly would be in for that. I think Four Dogs Tavern might even have better food though, and definitely is more conducive to parking/hearing people talk inside.
Four Dogs Tavern

I'm in the area and up for meets, though I'm none to interested in taking her into Philly proper. Too many terrible uninsured drivers there. Cars and Coffee on 202 near West Chester has a pretty solid turn out of air-cooled Porsches every week, and plenty of good backroads to get there.

Also interested in a group drive now and then.Thanks.

Steel Stacks is an excellent destination for a northern tour.
also check out :
-Billy's downtown Diner in Bethelehm for great b-fast or stroll main Street in Bethlehem to the Bethlehem Brewworks for lunch.
The Transportation Museum in Allentown or the Boyertown Auto Museum are very hospitable locations to consider as destinations.
-Then there is always the Porsche part whse up in Nazareth to consider ,not sure if they are open sat or not.

PS:Who's bringing the "Pelican Only Parking Here" Flag for Hershey?( Maybe Wayne Hisself???)

I've never been to the four dogs. It looks good. Cool cars and good food works for me every time. Sounds like we'll definitely get some things going from the looks of things on this thread....
