Timing Chain Problem Seeking Help
I am in the process of replacing the left timing chain because it is extremely stretched out. The car is a 1985 911 Carrera and has a lot of noise coming from the left timing cover. I set the engine at TDC and neither the distributor or the cam seems to be a the correct position (from what I have read). The crank pulley did not have Z1 stamped on it ,just two marks about an inch apart. I put a screw driver in the spark plug whole to determine that cylinder 1 was at TDC and choose the mark on the crank pulley off this. I realize that I am going to have to re-time the cams but wonder why the distributor is about an half inch to the right of the mark on the housing and the number 930 on the cam is pointed at 10.00 o'clock instead of 12.Has anybody seen this situation before and have any ideas about what is wrong and how to fix it ?I posted some pictures. Thanks for any help , John http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1436852057.jpg
