As for the value. It makes a huge? difference if 300243 comes to surface since 64 cases are actually not rare (they survive like yours). Most likely has your case been altered to accept the later chain boxes but may be also larger cylinders. On your heads there are casting numbers. Can you post those? It won't be off a surprise to me if those are '74 heads from the original engine case. Richard |
Head numbers
Hi Richard
thanks for the input , do you know where the head casting numbers are located ?are they obvious? |
what is all this stuff?
Evening Gents
I had a good look around things today , Dave there are defiantly no numbers around the pulley area , i found some numbers underneath one side has 901.101.101.01 & and the other side had 901.101.102.01? don't know if this is correct? pics of all the other bits i have acquired , its a bit daunting to be honest I haven't got a clue where to start!:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1437336662.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1437336663.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1437336672.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1437336695.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1437336863.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1437336975.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1437337002.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1437337049.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1437337288.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1437337299.jpg |
These are the case casting number and they match.
Here is some related PP thread: https://www.google.ca/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=901.101.101.01+pelic an+part&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&gfe_rd=cr&ei=wRCsVaO8BIiN8QeJhIEo The first one (26 Sep 2014) is similar to your story. |

Looks like a right old mix up this one

The head casting numbers are on the opposite side (180 degrees) of the date code which you see on your cylinder / head picture. Since you don't have the biral cylinders (would have had a split), later cam towers and the injection the chances are smaller that it's still 2.0L (but it's still possible until we see the head casting). BTW your case most likely also have had welding (studs?) for the injection "bracket" that we can see on the first picture.

Bore Sizes
thanks again everyone for all the info, its getting a bit addictive :)
what would the original bore size be for the 2.0L engine? and what could it have been bored out to , i just googled Biral Cylinders because i'd never heard of them and one site was offering them in lots of different sizes , so i was even more confused |
Bore size
sorry just answered my own question about 10 secs after posting question
901/01 1965 911, solex carbs 80x66, 1991cc I 39, E 35 I 32, E 32 9.0:1 130hp@6100rpm 128 lb/ft @ 4200rpm |
Heads up
This is the number I found under the head 911.104.345.0R
looks like these are 2.7 heads, does this mean that the case has definatley been bored out for these or is it still possible not to bore out and have these fitted, should i strip it down anyway?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1437425845.jpg |
Since it looks like it was (intended) to be a running engine and the fact that the cylinders are not biral it's almost a certainty that your case was machined to accept 2.7 cylinders and the heads fit the cylinders.
BTW I * think * that 2.0L non biral cylinders are all iron and there fore the cooling fins as well. On a 2.7 the fins would be alu so a magnet will tell you (an experience vintage Porsche mechanic probably sees it w/o testing) what kind of cylinders they are w/o taking the heads off. Richard |
with all the problems of mag cases etc. haven't I got the best of both worlds? aliuminium case with 2.7 power

After you have taken it apart make sure you use a larger oil pump than the one for the 2.0L alu case (probably was already swapped), that the bypass modification has been done and piston squirters were add (this last one is optional but I do it). As for the value. Unless the matching '64 VIN comes to surface the case is worth less than it would have been for 2.0L cylinders. RIchard |
