Charcoal Cannister - Any cheaper alternatives?

Has anyone found a cheaper alternative to the factory charcoal cannisters? $188 for a new one seems a little excessive to me.
I've seen the threads where people take them apart, but I'd rather just find a replacement than have to track down new foam and activated charcoal. (mine's probably half empty, judging from the charcoal bits that I always find in my airbox)

Checkout retroautomotiveparts.com He's a Pelican and has all sorts of parts in this regard. Now they are not new but my question would be "why do you want a new one"? I'm told they last almost forever although you may have trouble with yours.

There's one on eBay for a Mazda Miata for less than $40.

I just pulled one from my 81 SC turbo conversion. Looks in good shape, don't know how to check it?
PM an offer if interested.:)

I had a few offers for some in the $25 - $40 range very recently.

Just pop the top and go to the local tropical fish store and pick up some charcoal . fill it up , pop the top back on, Done. I just did mine not to long ago.

Reviving this thread as I found the charcoal mouse pellets in my airbox this weekend (post filter zone, not good).

Assuming my canister is fine (not rusted) and my pellets are just depleted a bit, what is the recommended foam for replacement?

Just curious...how would you know if this part was no longer doing its job?

After finding pellets in my airbox, appears the foam has dissolved, now allowing vacuum to pull the charcoal into the intake. Since everything is 32 years old, I'm replacing it all. Very inexpensive.

Plus my car was starting to smell like fuel more than it used to. Have also ordered fuel safe foam and new charcoal to complete the reseal.

If this works, I'll share the results.
