Ugh. According to Pelican Technical Article: 911 Suspension Spotting Guide, they are NOT interchangeable. And I almost certainly have a 914 bar.

Thanks all for your help - at least I know now, if I get the right bar, this will be a quick fix.

Thanks
-Glenn

Sorry. 914s have a different spline count. It will not fit in that a-arm.

OK - big progress! I got the new bar today, and I THINK I've got it all wrapped up. As a bonus, the ride height even looks pretty even. I'll be dropping it off at the body shop tonight so they can start work tomorrow. Thanks all for your help.

But I have a question.... what holds the torsion bar in place?

let me clarify the question and why I ask.

I got the new bar, and tapped it in - and it went in easily. It fit! Then, I put the cap over the end, and tapped it on. And I tapped some more... and some more... and the bar popped out the front :-(

I seated it back in, and tapped the cap back on more gently. Set the adjust screw, closed it all up... but how do I know the cap has enough purchase on the torsion bar? From the front of the A arm, I can see that the t-bar comes right out to the end of the female splines. I can't tell for sure how "on" the cap is though. How do I know? What holds it all together? If I can tap the bar all the way through so easily, what keeps that from happening while the car is moving?

Thanks
-Glenn

You've got the wrong bar. 914 bars are different

I exchanged the 914 bar for a 911 bar. This one fits just fine.

anyone have any thoughts on what holds the bar in? Should I be worried???

Thanks

The tension on the bar holds it in...or torsion?

Correct, the bar is under enormous tension and will not move even though it has no "catches" to stop it.
