Smoke in the cabin

I drove from my house to a gas station 1-2 blocks away and when I shut the car down notices a puff of smoke near the center vents.

My car has a slight cam seal leak that I'll be having fixed this winter and when the heat is on for the first few minutes I get a slight oil burning smell in the cabin, but have never actually seen smoke.

Then drove it around 60 miles roundtrip (gotta love those fall evenings in NJ) with my window cracked and minimal heat didn't want to risk death by CO.... with no incident, good pressure, no overheating, etc. Is the smoke from the cam seal dripping on the heat exchanger? Is this dangerous?

How awful is fixing that right rear cam seal going to be?

Adam

This same type of thing happened to me when a shop overfilled my oil and it dripped onto the heat exchanger, this therefore led to smoke in the cabin. Once the oil was all cleaned up, it took about a week for all of the oil to burn off and then it was back to normal!

are you shure it was oil ? I had black smoke in my cabin a few weeks ago It was the front fresh air blower that was broke ! The smoke came from melting plastic in my blower

Had lots of smoke in my cabin after not driving the car for 2 weeks. Major problem was leaking oil return tube seals - oil leaking down on the header/heater box, burning, and then being sucked up by the heater vent.

You might want to crawl under the car and look for obvious oil leaks dripping on the headers.

Oil return tubes are getting old as well, while we're fixing the cam seal I'm going to do those as well.

Definitely a burning oil smell, not burning plastic, that is an unforgettably awful scent! The oil scent sorta makes me feel like I'm sitting in something historic

I've got oil leaking from at least 3 different places, and that's AFTER I did the return tubes.

This winter I'm dropping the motor and going after each one.
