Installing Vinyl on A & B Pillars: Anyone have a thread?
Hey all...I'm in the midst of an interior refresh. I can't seem to find any threads on installing the vinyl correctly on the A and B pillars. I have a 69 911. This would be useful! Thanks.

no thread, but I have done this recently.....but I used Alcantara instead of factory-type material. I will look for pics and will share my experience here...or IM if you prefer. If you have the original pieces, that'll help. The original-type backing/padding should be available at local auto trim shop. I used 3M adhesive.....and once you do one of them, you'll wonder what all of the fuss was about. Headliner goes in first. Look at lots of pics of original, un-molested interiors if you're attempting to duplicate.....there are many slight variations around. pd |
I did this on my IROC Project. I kept the old pieces for a pattern and cut the new to fit with the same folds. It really is quite simple. Do you have the original pieces? If not I believe I have them and can send them to you to borrow for a pattern.

I don't have the originals. And there is supposed to be backing on them? Is it like a padding?

I went to a local auto trim place. They basically pointed me at a stack of vinyl and told me to pick something out. I was able to find a close match to the factory original and it had a very nice backing on it. I bought a few yards of it and tried my hand at replacing the vinyl. You really need the glass out.
Roll the exposed ends over maybe 1/4" to 1/2" to give a finished look. It helps to use some binder clips with some kind of padding to hold things tight while the adhesive sets up. I used Weldwood. |
The material I used was a faux black leather, dull finish. It had a backing to it and was not thin material so it had some "body" to it.
