Upper mount 3rd brake light re-install questions
 

I am re-installing the 3rd brake light (upper mount) on my 89 that had been removed by PO. I have purchased the light and mounting frame, but am not clear on how it wires up to the braking system. I see a hole in the rear window seal (from inside car looking up at seal)and am wondering if the wiring runs around inside seal to bottom of window, perhaps exiting around engine pad? If it comes out in engine compartment, where does it connect up to rear brake lights? Also, how does wiring connect to light itself? Again pics attached. Advice appreciated.

It appear POS severed the brake light wire, the wire would have protruded from that hole. check in the engine bay to see if the wire is still there. It is black with yellow stripe. Those metal tabs at the bottom of the assembly is your ground contact points, if it does not contact the chassis, light will not work.

Buddy's 89 couple has intermittent 3rd brake lights because his is loose.

Lot's of fun trying to feed the wire up through the C pillar! I think that it may originally been routed through the window trim?? Can't remember.

Trick for the wire that I used. Obviously don't pull out your headliner. Snake a thicker gauge wire down the c pillar then crimp together with yellow/black wire and pull back through. The ground connects to the same brown wires that come off your rear window defrost (source: bentley diagrams). Outer contact goes to your yellow/black wire, inner contact to the ground. Worth testing the bulb before you set off as well. IIRC its a dual filament...

I just routed the wire around the window seal, when the light is installed, you can't see it.
