Anyone Tried these eBay coupler Bushings?

Purchased a set of these for an '83sc Cab but the inside was diameter was way over size. Even after seating into the coupler the play was almost a bad as my worn out 32 year old bushings!!!

Just wondering if anyone else had the same experience or if perhaps I just received a dud set?

Cheers

Howdy,

I did a comparison on shifter bushings. I'll see if I can attach the link. I ran into a similar issue and got great success with some from our host.

I'll get back to you with the link.

Cheers

Thanks bugstrider, I knew I should have just purchased from Pelican, but that darn international shipping for small packages is ruinous

Ok, found it.

Yeah, I know all about those shipping charges. Especially to AU..... We have friends in Brizzy and Perth, costs a small fortune to send goody boxes.

Coupler bushing reviews

Hope this helps,

Cheers Bugs

Wow dude, excellent post! You saved me the trouble of posting this all over again, many thanks!

I notice at least even your crappy bushings were round. These ebay jobs are the oval'ish versions (despite the picture). Think I will just go ahead and order the same as yours.

Again, thanks for your help

I bought the black bushings and a set of brass bushings on ebay. I didn't have any installation problems with either set.

Hey Wayne,

It is my absolute pleasure to be able to help out in any way possible. I have quickly discovered that owning one of these great cars is a pleasure, but I also enjoy the chase when it comes to the lessons I learn while being involved with the car, I have learned so much since I have begun interacting with fellow forum members. Although, I will be the first to admit that there is a ton of information I still need to learn. There have been a few contributions to the forum and I think I have been able to make. It is my hopes that my journey may help someone else along their way too. Right now, I'm working on refreshing the suspension on our 78 911 SC targa. I'm doing as much as I can but have farmed out some things to those better suited for the job. For example, my calipers have gone off to PMB Performance and will get returned almost looking too good to be used. The ones I have seen look absolutely amazing. With any luck, they will last another 37 years. I am currently standing on the slippery slope of "while I'm there-itis" rubber vs poly-bronze etc...

As far as I see it, everything I am learning will float over to our 68 912's whenever I get extra time in our day.....yeah, like that will happen any time soon. I don't know about the rest of the crowd, but it seems this whole year has been spent chasing my own tail. I seem to be short of time every time I turn around and I can not believe it's flipping near the end of August........ What the heck?

Anyway, that is fantastic you have gotten a chance to enjoy the roads to Lake Tahoe. The wife and I got married on the beach at Sand Harbor and yes, Zepher Cove is a beautiful place. In fact, I don't think there is any place up there that isn't beautiful. Every now and then, I get to help out with a dive class up in the lake too. If it's not too personal, what brought you to Sac and how long ago did you relocate? If I'm treading onto too personal a topic, I fully understand.

The wife and I have a glorious trip to Australia this year. We started in Sydney for New Years, then road trip up the coast to Brizzy, dove Fish Rock Cave with some of your Grey Nurse sharks, aka Sand Sharks on our East Coast, then a week in Cairns, with a topper back in Sandgate and Nusa Heads. 5 weeks total Great Country with great people. Oh, and by the way, your outdoor outfitter stores trump anything we have over here and wish we could get some of the gear found there... We didn't make it over to Melbourne but that will be on the next adventure.

If there is anything you would like sent to you from the area just let me know. Main Street has changed a little and is always a neat place to visit. Did you ever get a chance to stop by the old hardware store? It's supposed to be the oldest one still in operation. It's got the old wood floors and has all the odd stings I can't get at the big chain hardware stores like Home Depot.

Anyway, I've rambled on long enough.

Cheers Trevor

Thanks! It was my pleasure and I try to contribute to the forum when I can. If I can assist in any way just shout or PM/email. I was really pleased with the results of the bushings too. I also recommend the bushings in your shifter. I only say this because when I did the coupler, I discovered that by shifter bushings were in bad shape. Between all three sets, night and day difference. At least in my case it did.

I also looked into the brass bushings but read that they can resonate vibration up through the shifter, which may or may not be an issue. Now that is solely based on articles and I have no personal experience with the brass bushings. There are also those that swear by them too.

Good luck and cheers,
Trev

Cost effectiveness. A factory coupler with round centered bushings is indiscernable from
A PSJ. I've tried both and went back to the factory coupler.

Thanks Trev, I have indeed changed out the shifter bushings, the coupler was the final piece of the puzzle

I'm running the brass bushings and have driven my brother's car with a wevo coupler and don't really notice any more vibration from one to the other. I also ran a coupler with the delrin bushings and didn't notice any more vibration with brass bushings. I think that one is a myth and more mind related than reality. I normally drive with my right hand resting on the shift knob so I'm pretty sure I'd notice the difference.

Thanks Wayne I was just about to call you actually when I read this. Appreciate your kind offer but I have already reinstalled the coupler so no real rush now, and as I need a few other bits and pieces I will include the bushings in my next order.

Cheers

PS Did you bring your '84 down under? We should take to the hills one day if interested? I try to get out at least once or twice a month, time permitting.
