VIN numbers

I discovered that there is a VIN in my trunk that is different than the VIN on my A pillar. The A pillar VIN is WPOEB091J6S172065 and the VIN in the trunk is WPOZZZ91ZJS172065. What does this mean?

Thanks

That means your car is normal. Once Porsche converted to the 17-digit VINs, all the trunk VINs had the ZZZ. The "model and market-specific" VINs were used on all the other VIN locations on the car. I may not be saying this quite right but I hope you get my drift.

Thanks Jim. I can breathe a little easier. One other strange thing is that most of the books say that power tops became standard on cabs in '86 or '87 as did headlight washers. My car is an '88 (it has a G50 and the VIN checks out to be an '88 cab), but it has a manual top (I checked to make sure that it was never an auto top - no motors inside and no provision for a switch on the console) and no headlight washers (again no signs of ever having any and no indication of front end damage/bumper replacement). Are the books wrong? Were there non-auto top cabs and non-headlight washer cars in '88? Also, the seats have leather surfaces, but they are not perforated (again, doesn't seem to be a recover). Not that I mind as top operation is simple as can be, the seats are going to be replaced and I am trying to strip lots of weight off. Just curious.

Thanks
