Shift Lever Noise 915

I have an 80sc with the short shift kit installed. Lately it has been making a horrible racket when I'm in second gear. The sound is caused by vibrations in the lever causing it to contact something metallic (?) at it's base. When I hold the shift lever, it ceases to make the noise any longer. Is it normal for the shift lever to vibrate a little? Could a portion of the short shift kit be loose? Any information at all would be helpful.

Sounds like there's something loose - but I bet you knew that. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif

Pull the shifter off and tighten the longitudinal shaft screw that pivots forward and backward. A sixth of a turn should do it - don't get it too tight.
