Old Sportomatic. Value?? (now with PICS!)

Was driving by. Old Sportomatic local to me. Guy said he "thinks" it's late 60s. Seems all intact. Everything there. Says it even ran a couple years ago. Been sitting in a barn. Definitely better than "barn find" condition.

Wondering on potential value (if any?).

They are awesome cars and will continue to appreciate in value over time. The sporto mechanism is finicky but not impossible to service. It's worth making and offer if it is in reasonable condition.

Sportos are high in the "cool" factor right now. But beyond that, they really are pretty neat cars to drive. Looks straight and original. Probably 2.2T. I say its a find! Probably a small army of flippers trying to blow up that photo and read the license plates right now, planning to steal it away from you. Go by tomorrow morning and offer that guy a price he can't refuse!

I'm clueless as to what a reasonable offer is...

Without knowing if it is a T,E or S we couldn't even begin to give a value. It's worth between $20k & $100k. Didn't you look at the vin? Or deck badge or dash badge? You obviously spoke to guy, you need to go back and ask more questions, get more info and find out what HE thinks it is worth.

It is unbelievable what you guys drag out of your sheds....

This never happens where I live.

I wonder why this is?

No more Porsche where sold to US compared to Western Europe in those early years....

Is it because storage is cheap in the US and m2 are at a premium in W-E?

No real idea but that car could scary valuable... Well beyond $100,000?

With today's prices (in the US) anything is possible.

IMHO, assuming it has an engine, it is at least a $20k car. I would try to buy now.

$20k? That's very conservative.

What's a good late 60s shell alone worth?

Yes, conservative...(but that is what "at least" means)...a minimum which might be more depending on model and condition. That is at least a 50 ft photo...and it could be a rust bucket with no interior and a grenaded engine, wrong wheels, etc. I would pay/risk $20k from the photo alone.

Too late. I have bought Canada. So all on Canadian soil is my property.

Could not believe the low BIN price on Canada.

Hey Hydrocket

I was by there Saturday. The owner said someone was coming down from Guelph to pick it up Sunday. Maybe he was a no show. You going to make an offer?

I think he's changed his mind...or is waffling. When I called there today, his wife told me if was no longer for sale...that he was thinking of keeping it.

So here's more pics....maybe better to help evaluate value?

It's a 1970T

Bloody hell, is that thing on original tires? And those door pockets look great for a LWB. What's the mileage on it? That's a $50-60k car and maybe more. Looks very solid, at least on the small pictures on my phone.

So what is up with the hub caps? Some pictures show them on the rear while others don't.
