Schroth 4-Point Safety Harness

Hi,

Thought I'd share.

Found these on eBay today: Schroth 4-Point Safety Harness only $55!

These are Military spec. mine-resistant light armored vehicles.

So Figured they are safe enough for street. Can also use with crotch strap to make 5 point.

How and where in the car would you attach the upper shoulder straps?

It's going to need something else but what??

Careful if you think you want to use them on the track. They need to be wear-dated. No mention of that and I can't see in the pics.

Well I can't really recommend that harness for street or track. See Schroth installation requirements and crash testing for specifics. In short, a 5pt harness used without the sub strap tends to cause submarining in a head-on collision. The driver is then effectively cut in half at the waist. Several on-track incidents with outlaw track day organizers have resulted in exactly this sort of fatality.

Schroth does make an ASM 4pt system that when installed correctly prevents submarining. It is approved for use with some legit track day groups.

I wouldn't want to click each belt in separately on the street, that would get old. Any thoughts on the Racetech 4 point belts? They look very similar to the Schroth 4pt Rallye Cross. What exactly is different in the "ASM" belts that makes them prevent submarining?

asm - Welcome to SCHROTH Safety Products, Germany
english.schroth.com/racing/technology/asm.php
The SCHROTH asm® system offers an unique safety advantage for 4-point harnesses. asm® is the acronym for anti submarining. The risk to submarine ( sliding ...

When installed and used correctly, the ASM harness induces a twist at the shoulders. This anchors you in the seat and acts more like a 3pt in a frontal collision. This has been thoroughly tested and is a pretty good solution with an approved seat and harness bar. I don't think it is compatible with a HANS device though. Must read all the mice type on safety gear to make sure it works as designed.

ASM stands for Anti-SubMarining. It's an extra flap of material sewn into the inboard shoulder belt that prevents you from sliding underneath the lap belt. In a 4 point harness made by some other company, the two shoulder straps restrain your upper body equally. They keep your chest from moving forward. However, this also pulls up on the lap belt and allows your accellerating pelvis to slide under the lap belt and cause serious damage to your stomach and intestines. With ASM, one of the shoulder belts will elongate at a different rate which will force your pelvis down into the seat cushion. Upon rebound, you will be placed back in an upright position with the belt correctly placed over your body.

saving a few bucks to get an unsafe product in a 911 is a pretty weird idea.

saving a few bucks to get an unsafe product in a 911 is a pretty weird idea. How many of you are still using 50 year old seat belts? And have you priced a new set of Schroth belts?

Thanks for the feedback guys. Got them today and the German build quality is excellent. At the price I paid. if they turn out to be a chore to use, I'll ditch them and go back to a new set of stock belts.

Hope you aren't using with stock seats. Safety needs the complete package, check the schroth installation guides.
