cam choice?
just got done doing a 3.0 build je 10.5 pistons all new seals and bearings weber 40ida twin plugged heads 1.5 headers with 2 in 2 out muffler , the motor has no guts above 4.5k the 964 cams I was advised to get for street use are way to bland/boring the motor never feels to come alive , so the BIG ?? is what cams are the peoples choice for some good runs up to redline without falling on its face

I have a 204bhp Euro SC. Engine rebuilt stock apart from 964 cams and SSIs. It's still on CIS with the fuel set rich. From 4k it all kicks off - sounds like a angry wasp and zings all the way up to the red line. Folks have commented that it feels as quick as a 3.2.
I'd say your cam timing isn't right. |

The 964 cams are designed to work with a smog controlled fuel injection motor. So they are mild and not a true performance cam designed to work with J&E pistons and carburetors.
Also which heads are you using? Small port or large port? The weber 40s may also be limiting your top end power. You need to talk to an expert as to how to get each aspect of your motor tuned to work together with your cam choice and desired use of the motor.

If they will fit bearing wise (don't remember for sure), I've got a set of Elgin Solex cams for sale. I went with E cams for my 2.7L instead. They (or something like that) might be a good choice, especially with the carbs.
