Nuts!!! Muffler nuts

Folks,

Quick question - 1986 911, I'm trying to remove muffler. I cut the nut off with a dremmel. I can't seem to pound out the bolt. Is the cat/pre-exhaust threaded?

I've searched, but can't seem to find a mention of it being threaded.

Do I just need a bigger hammer?

Thanks

Greg

No threads on the flange.

Cut both ends off and use penetrating oil between the 2 flanges. A chisel may needed to force them apart.

You could try drilling the remaining parts out whilst attached to the car but on the bench is much easier.

Thanks much! I didn't want to make all this racket in the neighborhood only to find out the darn things are threaded in.

I typically take a car with rusty fastners to a muffler shop and have them R&R only the nuts/bolts. Then take it home and put the new nuts, bolts, and fresh gaskets in myself.

Wait, how do you drive the car home?

Just a WAG; R&R, so he let them removed them and replace them with cheap one for the trip home.

I drove mine to the muffler shop sans muffler when I had the Flo-Pro fabbed up. It was not a good Porsche sound but it was only a few miles.

Yup it's Remove & Replace - sorry about that. Basically the shop gets to do the not-fun job and I finish it up (a "test" pipe to replace catalytic converter in the last episode).

Bolt slip-fits through the flanges, then threaded into nut. Typically, molecules from all parts are intertwined into a single mass due to corrosion. Heat, penetrating oil and a BFH (careful) helps separate the particles. It's only two muffler inlet bolts/nuts, yes?
