Quick paint update (pics)
I'm by no means done. But I'm working on with an airbrush at this point, fixing things. Included, sanding and buffing, and then polishing in lots of different places.
Lots of work yet to do, but just to show, I didn't fall off the face of the earth. Working with an airbrush isn't so bad. It's the drying time of single stage paint that's the problem. You have to spray some, let it dry, spray more. Takes a day to really dry so it can be sanded and buffed without risk. Most mistakes: 1) crap on the car 2) letting it drip (easy to do if you're trying to cover a goof...you MUST have the discipline to sand it out, spray a coat AND GO AWAY for a while. Don't keep spraying it until it's gone 'cause 20 minutes later you have a drip.) 3) Not having the gun/brush tuned to the paint. The additional sanding to blend it will cause you to eat away at neighboring paint. This is only if you have to patch in, which sucks and from what I see, can only be done with airbrush and CO2 container 4) Burning the paint with the buffer. This happens all the time on these curvy cars. Too slow and buffing is useless. Too fast and you run out of goo on the wheel, and BOOM, it's burnt esp on the fenders near the lips, and below the headlights. Pack up, torch up a smoke, and prepare to patch in. 5) It's really hard to get right. I sure wish I could explain how effing hard it is. This will NEVER be the right. That is far beyond my ability at this point. It will be as good as I can make it. And yes, I'm going to patch in the exhaust cutouts in a week or two. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Actually, the sun is the best place for any paint. It would look like a factory paint job in the sun--no, not a factory paint job. It would look "better" in the sun. Besides, there's a lot of unsanded airbrush spots here and there you can't see in the pics. We'll see how it goes...
