Brad:
Actually this is a very good question. When JohnW returned my car to me with a rebuilt 915 I found that the clutch engaged virtually right off the floor. Now in the SC the perception of the engagement point has something to do with the rubber block location in the floorboard (since this block limits how far you can throw the clutch pedal down). The other half of the engagement point is the distance of the levers under the trans; this distance once you tension the clutch cable is 1mm. Now, when I went to check the adjustment of this 1mm the other day, I unhooked the clutch cable, set the 1.2mm, rehooked the clutch cable and reset to the tensioned 1mm. Then I set the throw of the clutch pedal to the 25mm setting via the rubber block in the floorboard. With a new clutch cable, fresh pedal box bushings, shifter cup, etc. the engagement of my cluth is 1/2 way up, just as you have said. I think this must be the expected engagement point since I can find no errors in my math, so to speak. The job is easy enough that it is worth going the whole way, not just checking to see if you have the 1mm and the 25mm throw. Jw |

Thanks! I guess I am more concerned that each gear seems to grind/grab slightly and there are times when getting into 1st and reverse are difficult, as if the clutch was not fully dis-engaged. Will this adjustment address that as well? In other words, can the perception of a bad clutch be adjusted out?
Thanks again -Brad 80SC |
