Rear hubs AL trailing arms in Steel arms
I replaced the rear trailing arms on my 71 911 with AL ones. I want to go back to the steel ones, but I do not know if my rear hubs and splines, dust shields and other stuff will swap onto the steel arms.
I noticed that there are different part numbers on the two systems.. And if they are not interchangeable, any one got advice on where I can source a new set of hubs and splines... |

Unless you have aluminum trailing arms from a '74, you will need to change driveshafts (and possibly trans. output shafts???) too. From 75-on the driveshaft CV joints are actually smaller, I believe. Sorry I can't be more specific; just some random info I've read somewhere. I'm pretty sure the steel to al. arm conversion has been covered here.
*edit* I recall that the rear shocks are different too, as the lower bolt size changed with the aluminum arms. Tim K Last edited by Tim K; 08-09-2015 at 02:22 PM.. |

Yea I am beginning to think I will have to change everything out. One of the worst decisions I made was to change these arms out. I know I can keep the AL arms if I take off some of the metal and restore the geometry of the shock.... I fear you may be right about the parts not going from one to the other.
