Need to clean up the threads on a wheel nut
 

I nicked the threads on one of my wheel bolts just a tad, so wondering if anyone has a good lead on a metric thread cleaning kit with the proper TPI of that particular bolt. This one looks okay but not sure if it actually contains the proper tool: Does it?Search SiteSearch Thread Tap - 006258SCH01A - 15 Piece Metric Thread Chaser Set - ES#2748798 I have repaired threads with a small triangular file and a loupe but now that I know there is specific l tools just for this purpose, I want in. btw:One day hanging out at a local garage, theres always a new challenge rolling in the door as well as free flowing information from real mechanics..so one day a guy there said you know what my favorite tool is? and he showed me the thread cleaning kit. Now if that wasn't an advertisment..

Yeah, I nicked my threads on the driver side, ended up using a thin triangle file to fix it. Ghetto I know but I did not want to strip the lug.

Or, you can get a steel 19MM lug nut and file a slit and make a thread chaser???

You can purchase dedicated thread files with the specific pitch (tpi) you want. Try a machinist supply outfit. We use them at work and they work great.

+1. These work great. The thread file I have has 8 different pitches built into one file. It has saved me numerous time. Something like this:

Give these guys a call. These dies are very good for what you are trying to do. They sell complete sets or the piece you need. The one you will need is 14mm x 1.5 .

Unfortunately heavy on the SAE sizes but has had all the metric ones I have needed.

Wire brush them to get the nut dreck off or replace them. Cheaper and easier.....

Thanks for all the good information and options. "Chase 'em back" looks like the 'top dog' in the thread cleaning game, (and funny name..) Even if I don't buy a whole kit it is good to know about that place and they sell individual pieces. The idea of going backwards makes sense actually. Also, Kastar looks very good and just like the kit I saw at the mechanic, I remember the plastic case was orange. Hard to tell if that kit it comes with the one i need: 14mm x 1.5
