A lot can happen in 40 years.
My '74 has had at least 2 color changes. -C

Can you post a picture? I think the information on the COA gets shortened and oversimplified and can be misunderstood.

I'm with Charles, getting forty years out of original cloth seats would seem a bit optimistic.

Charles Mine is red now ,
MDamen picture attached Matt yes i do have a plaque and its mounted on the dash azhodgw yes i guess its hard to keep the original clothes for 40 years , but the previous owner replaced the carpet , door panels , rear panels , front and rear seats. i found the original fabric in Germany , i just want to make sure that its a real silver edition before i buy the fabric. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7vUugYra_nmWmpmemxXQkV0OWNlS3d6OWM0TzUyVmJVYXR3/view?usp=sharing Last edited by icecube76; 08-06-2015 at 12:35 AM.. |

The COA for my car is off. Interior color code is 95 which is light red according to the fact book. Porsche says its "leather to sample".

There may also have been "dealer installed" options, so what left Germany may not have been what was delivered to the original owner. AC was all this way back then. Could be upholstery was changed due to personal preference as well. To my thinking this brings up an interesting question of historical accuracy. If a 911 left the factory with "X" trim package, but the original purchaser had it switched by the factory authorized dealer to "Y", which is more accurate now? The car was purchased new with "Y", so isn't that the "original" configuration?
I personally wouldn't fret too much about absolute accuracy, but focus more on "period correct", but then I don't have a high dollar value vintage car - just a lowly and rough mid-year. -C

yes i thought that the COA will answer all my questions , but it shows the things that i already know , except for the Koni shocks and forged wheels. Charles , you are right. maybe its a dealer option . i know that the A/C in mine is a dealer option . not sure about the interior though . |

Perhaps it was possible to order a different interior color in one of those cars. Yes, they were a special edition but maybe you could still order other options, even conflicting options.
I've seen a lot of pictures of the anniversary interiors, where it looks like the vinyl surrounding the cloth is black, not dark blue. If the anniversary interior was just a typical cloth/vinyl combination, it would not surprise me to see some of these could have been ordered to be slightly different. I really doubt the dealer would have changed an entire interior. Adding A/C, swapping wheels or a radio with another car in stock, yes that did happen. An entire interior... very doubtful. An owner changing it years later, yes that happens all the time. JR |

Light Red (code 95, 1977-1980) is often reflected on COAs as "leather to sample". However, COAs don't show an extra charge for U.S. delivered cars (or "99" interior code). Perhaps they used "leather to sample" since it was rarely fitted and was usually only a standard color for U.S. delivery (extra for RoW, "99").

I've owned three 911s. I ordered a COA for my first one, a 1980 SC that had several mistakes (apparently my 1980 left the factory with Turbo-Look body work which wasn't even an option in 1980...).
I haven't bothered to get a COA for the later two cars.

What Javadog said. I suspect that the interior on this particular car is correct and original. It matches the COA, why worry about it any further?

My 73 showed black leatherette but the interior was original blue vinyl. After reviewing with two prior owners and then Porsche directly they said that it may have been an error or a late change on the line. Everything else was correct. I am now looking for production dates for my cars (I'll even take the month it was built) but Porsche has no information. If anyone has a 74 Carrera Targa or a 70 or a 73 please let me know as I am trying to get help that didn't come from the COA.
