Need seat opinions for my 73 RSR look

I've narrowed my seat selection down to two.

Modern would be the Recaro pole position and retro would be the GTS Rally (with optional bolt on shoulder harness harness guides and 5 point holes)

While not a faithful reproduction, I do want to keep my 73 as mostly a 73 with RSR level performance upgrades including wide body and more power. I plan to use it for almost anything including track days, coffee runs and occasional every day use. Interior will be light weight grey carpet and black bolt in roll cage. (I've already considered all the cage issues).

Of these two seats, which one would you select for seats?

Please vote (at the top of the screen)
Also, add a post if you want to explain your selection.

Thanks!

RETRO

MODERN

P.S.
Thanks to whoever posted these pictures originally.

I love the PPs looks, especially with the alcantara center. make sure you fit, I hear they are for the smaller size guys (never sat in them).

Gets my vote.

Assuming both are as comfortable for you, I like the GTS rallies. They will look better in a 73 imho

As of this morning the vote is 10:1 in favor of the retro look.
I'm leaning in that direction as well.

I love both and I don't think the pole positions would look out of place and are probably the better track seat from a safety perspective.

Any thoughts on the suitability of the GTS retro looking seats for track use?
(Not sanctioned racing, just track days).

Thanks in advance

don't overlook other options, like 'vintage seats' based in Atlanta, the owner has experience racing, I'm sure he can give you the right compromise between that period look and feel and the safety you desire.

Thanks

I've looked at their seats. They look nice, but I prefer the style of the ones above if I go retro.

Wayner, I've been shooting emails back and forth with Stefan. He sent me some photos of some ST models with bare FG on the Bach where you can see the weave-incredible stuff! Not sur of your size, but he can build them wider for folks as well, another option I'm discussing with him.

Good to know.

One of my thoughts was that since he offers a bolt on harness guide, maybe shoulder wings/head restraint could be bolted on. Heck , I could have a vintage seat that easily converts to a full halo racing seat in minutes!

I'll have to give him a call.

If you decide on the Pole Positions.....I have a pair for sale. Black with the Charcoal Gray Alcantara inserts and only about 6 months old. The previous owner of my car bought and installed them just before I bought the car. I put GT3RS seats in the car.
PM me if interested.....

I was in the same situation as you a couple of months ago. I decided to go with the GTS Sebrings. I didn't like the sharp angles of the bolster on the Rallye.

I love the look of the PP but decided to go the more period correct look. Just personal preference.

I like the look of the retros, but I hate the giant bolsters in any car I'm going to drive on the street. They are a giant PITA to get into and out of.

support and racing

Hi Guys,
Thank you all for the new input I got. However I have to apologize for missleading you all....the top picture of the Rallye shows the old model, the new one hac a more soft curved appearance and is a bit taller to have the headrest at the right height. My apologizes.

the bottom one is with alcantara centers and leather. The sides have the same support just the curves are just softer. The angles didn't suit many customers especially the passengers. If you want we even can lower the entrance side for easy entry, we make every seat to customer specs, so your wishes are our command.

this was a seat for a SC RS in Rallye specs with grey basket weave centers. here installed in the car with grommets

I prefer something a little more classic looking but still modern.

Her is my option, I have a set from Kragen and the 80's model that I need to get rid of now, just not as nice.

These are not real Recaro but fit and build are very high end.

Well, it looks like I'm going to disappoint many people with my decision.
Taste wise, most people including myself prefer the retro style seats.

When I really thought about why I wanted better seats though, it is because I will be using the car on the track quite a bit, and I wanted added safety. I don't want to break any more ribs so I am going with the modern racing seat and harnesses. I also picked up a british mag that had an original RSR with a modern recaro driver's seat for the same reason, although the passenger seat was original. Like that owner, I felt the recaro seat was a reasonable compromise. At least it is still a racing seat in keeping with the car's race inspired styling, and not a blingy tuner car looking one.

I took RKT up on his offer.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate everyone's input

P.S.
Once I get that track stuff out of my system again, swapping to period correct seats in the future is an option. It is an easy change to make, and it would be the icing on the RSR cake.

If you said this was going to be on the track a lot I would have said get three seats if you are solo, two retro and one race seat . Pull the race seat out (10 minute job) and run the nice retro seats for daily use. If you are instructed then you need two race seats and equal restraints.

Those Recaro's shown above have no lap belt pass through (that I see) and the shoulder harness guide holes may or may not be any good depending on your height. Do one or the other, seats that you fit in with properly positioned pass-throughs, 6-point haresses properly mounted and positioned, and a roll bar with the correct height of cross bar or street seats with a 3-point belt.

I went with the Sparco Evo2's for exactly that reason - I love the look of the retro seats -

Well, I am the prototypical height for any car or motorcycle, so I get off easy when it comes to selecting sizing options.

All good points though.

I am under the impression that the pole positions have a pass through between the cushions for the harness.

Here is my current set up. With the current body re-do on my car, I want to feel like I am driving in something nice, (sort of a 70's GT3) instead of this old race seat setup. Also, someone with a more modern car might find good value in my existing street seats to complete their package.

I'm a big fan of period-correct. While the recaro's look cool, I don't think they fit the overall vibe.
