Question for Pelican folk from UK
I need an advise regarding exporting a parts car from UK to Europen Mainland.
What do I need for exporting a parts car / roller w/o vin nr and w/o title out of UK? The car I am looking at is a 964 but the bulkhead with the vin nr is cutted out and used for another project car. The only thing i can get is a Bill Off Sale from the seller. Any advise would be very much appreciated. Thanks |

You could be in serious trouble.
It depends on how the shell was obtained and the basic parts you are trying to export. Even if the VIN has been removed you still have a Bill of Sale with the Car as the V5C Registration Document in the UK is not proof of title. The problem is the missing VIN. If the vehicle has been sold as Salvage and has been an insurance loss then a Category A or Category B vehicle would have the VIN tags removed and the body stampings cut out. Cat A and Cat B vehicles are generally subject to a destruction order and should not be put back onto the road. This would mean that a Certificate of Destruction would have issued. Even if you know the Vehicles previous registration number the Licensing Authorities in the UK will not re-issue a V5C (Registration Document) for a Cat A or Cat B Vehicle. It order to buy such a car you would also need to be a licenced dismantler and have an 'End of Life' Transport Licence to move it on the highway - although on a one-off basis I just can't imagine you would be stopped. Many Stolen Recovered vehicles that have been found with missing engines and transmissions are considered Cat B and it can be a real problem. If as you say the VIN has been used on another vehicle I would be very, very worried. Without a V5C section to produce to another European Licencing Authority it could be very difficult to register. Without the VIN it will be difficult to prove age and hence could be a real misery in term of which specification is have to meet in terms of emissions etc. If you plan to use a different VIN (the legality of this could be questioned but I suppose the 11th Commandment applies) then you may get away with it. If you plan to trailer it out through customs and if you have a UK Bill of Sale you may be OK but if one of the specialist Vehicle Theft Squads is working and you don't have the a V561 or the relevant supplement from the V5C you may have some explaining to do and it could be fun. As you have no VIN you will not be able to produce either of these documents. In general, depending on the price I would tend to run away. Last edited by chris_seven; 08-10-2015 at 05:48 AM.. |
