911s?

http://imagehost.auctionwatch.com/bin/viewimage.x/00000000/jasonkim/911svinnumber.JPG?allow_mailing_list=1&owner_id=581183&allow_track_link=1&track=0220b35f48-8de3f&pt=bidpay

Is this an S? First of all, the question is not that it says "911S," but rather that it does not have an "S" on the end of the serial #. So could this car have been made before the S-on-the-end numbering system, or is something wrong here? TIA.

Since 67' was the first year for the S and the 67's had an S on the end of the number then I doubt it. Also 500569 would be late in that year of production since they started at 500001S and ended with 500718S. That's not to say that this car isn't an S though because early in the production of 911s it's not uncommon for production technics to vary.

I would check the number on the left side of the cross-member below the smugglers box.

This car is a 67' S Targa I take it?

By the way did you get my email on that beautiful 71' S Coupe forsale here in L.A.?

Some other things.
The window cranks and rear seats are the very early style, i don't remember that they were used in 1967, especially later production.
Check the serial number in the trunk by the smugglers boot, and if you are really anal, the number under the dash knee pad by the ashtray. Is the engine number correct too? 961972
Seller says numbers matching so i presume that a cardex or whatever its called know is available, check there.
Are the decals on the rear cross member correct?
Needs tires, and rear end alignment.

S engine

I saw in another pic (the car is on ebay) that the engine number looks like it begins with 96- which I think means S, and 91- means a regular 911. I emailed the seller but he has not responded and there is no phone number. If I can get a hold of him I will ask him about the numbers in the places you told me to look. Thanks. PS.Bobboloo: That car, while very nice, was a color-change and non-matching numbers car and he wanted over $23,000. Nice though...

67S targa

From what I can see, it's a real S targa.

Many giveaways for the 67S....vs 67 non S.

1) Interior is S type, with aluminum trim under door tops, aluminum endcap under door opener trigger, basketweave dash insert. The rest of the interior is correct for a 67 (rear seats and door winders are 1967 correct).

2) Exterior is S type with S rubber trim on bumpers. And, the trim deco that's under the door is for the 1967S only...it wasn't orderable for the plain 67 911, and it wasn't offered subsequent years....it's literally impossible to find now.

I have a copy of the Early S Registry, and the other cars "around" this car have similar engine number sequences....so based on that alone it's a correct number matching car.

As far as the id tag on the latch receiver plate....both my 67S's (factory kardexed) have the serial number WITHOUT an S stamped into it.

As mentioned previously the ID in the smugglers box area will say S behind the serial number. A note regarding the ID plate on the drivers door hinge.....every 67S I have seen has the serial number with an S stamped into it ....but the "S" always looks like it's stamped as an afterthought...it's NOT! The id plate only has space for 6 numbers...so the S is right on the edge of the id plate, and sometimes looks like it's been tampered with. (did I explain that correctly???).

Any questions, please ask.
regards,
Eric Linden

Funny - my 305829S, which is earlier than Eric's has the S after the number...

Its back up again with BIN for $14k, last auction it hit $13600 but no real buyer.
Did anyone check it out? Ytnukl, did you hear back from seller?
It seems awfully cheap for an early S, or is the targa a minus for its "value".

Yes, heard back

I heard back from him. The car could be sketchy because he has NO docs whatsoever, no dmv records, no maintenance, nothing. Doesn't know if color was original(?). There is really no rust, looks nice enough. It's an S though, and I may go check it out this weekend. Anything in particular with Early S cars I should look for besides rust and accidents, and paint code will be looked at, and I maybe will get a PPI done then...thanks everyone.
