another paint match question
I have an 84 euro spec 911. Original paint is OK for the most part, leading edges have been over buffed and show some primer. But the doors appear to have been resprayed. I made the mistake of using some blue tape for numbers at the autox and when I pulled the tape, dots of paint pulled off. There is also some crazing up at the top of the door.
I stopped at a reputable body shop, and the fellow suggested not trying to redo the doors, but just save up until I can get a proper paint job done. He rough guessed $7K to do it right, as they have to pull the fenders and glass to really do a nice job. I know this is a reasonable price for a paint job. But it would be at least a couple of years before I have that money to spend on paint as there are mechanical issues that have a higher priority for me. So wait and do it right, or make it look better for a few years until I get around to doing it right. |
After reading the other paint post, the color is Guards Red and the car has had some Florida sun, but spends most of the time in a garage.

Post a pic.
I say wait until you can do it right, he didn't tell you how long it would take, right? To do it right it has to go slow and steady. You need to visit once in awhile to insure all is being worked on to your satisfaction for that price. I'd say drive her and fix the more important mechanical stuff first, especially if you beat her up in AutoX's. My 2 cents. |

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1439341903.jpg The parts of the paint that are good, really are good. But there are some dings and hood dimples. Autox isn't too hard on it, but I guess it does kick up some gravel. |
