Anyone add Ethanol Treatment into their tanks?

Is it snake oil? What exactly does it do?
For guys with low use cars that may only use a few tanks a year, do you add any of this stuff?

Safeguard
Lucas Safeguard Fuel Conditioner and Stabilizer, 16 oz - Walmart.com

Meanwhile, it seems dubious at best:

Quote:
No additive (chemical ingredient) can prevent or remove water from a sedentary tank in storage.

Since E10 is a strong solvent, cleanser, de-greaser, anti-freeze and octane enhancer it often replaces the need for additional gas additives. Ask yourself, why add more alcohol, for "prevention" for ethanol alcohol-caused gas problems? Simply makes no sense...

Probably no need for newer cars that are driven regularly. For older cars that were built before ethanol was added to fuel, LN Engineering were recommending adding Joe Gibbs Carb Defender to the fuel to try to help preserve the fuel system. I've also heard good things about StaBil Marine formulation, and since many of these cars are stored over the winter here in the Midwest, anything that can help is much appreciated. Rebuilding gummed up Webers is not a cheap proposition!

Just buy non-ethanol gas. Here in Florida it's widely available.

I don't know of any non-ethanol gas available where I live. I have been told, by a gas station owner, that this is by law here. So, I use StaBil Marine, always. If someone knows of non-ethanol nearby - as in this country - I'd like to hear about it.

In Oregon, E10 is mandated, except that non-ethanol fuel (generally only in 92 octane) is legal for boats, off-road equipment, power tools and cars more than 25 years old. It's not terribly hard to find, but it does run as much as 30% higher price than E10. I normally don't bother.

What exactly does StaBil Marine do to the E10 gas?

I think all of the additives endeavor to prevent "phase separation" which occurs when the gas absorbs water. I use a product called Startron in my boat. I also remove all of the leftover boat gas in the fall and put in new in the spring. I haven't had problems, but who's to say I might not have had problems without it? If you google these products and look at reviews in forums, you'll find equal numbers of people who applaud the products and people who think it's snake oil.

The gas you are buying in Westchester is 10% Ethanol already....

Years ago before the Corn lobby and other political machinations what you would get from the gas pump was 100% gas.... (not counting the Mgfs additive package)

Unfortunately now most fuel has 10% min Ethanol.... which the Ethanol portion loves to attract and bind with any water available....

In the North East there is never any good reason to add any extra Ethanol, to the 10% we already buy..

I have been using this ^^ in my 1973. Seems to help.

For older cars there are several issues.
1-The ethanol in the fuel will absorb water until it phase separates and corrodes the steel fuel system components which most older cars have. Marine Stabil has something to keep the water mixed with the gasoline and a corrosion inhibitor to prevent corrosion of the metal lines.
2-Ethanol is not compatible with many of the rubbers used in older cars and will cause the rubber to fail. The only option I know is to replace these with ethanol compatible rubbers.

I had bad gas that caused misfire once. HEET helped a lot. Sta bil brand works well.

I use Lucas 'Safeguard' ethanol treatment for the '84 that doesn't get driven as much. It also has corrosion inhibitors and fuel stabilizer in it.

I have been having some misfiring and noticed some water droplets in my carburetors. I added some HEET and Techron to my tank and noticed an improvement in my motors running.

Just happened to see this video.

40 year old fuel in good condition? I don't believe it.
