I can hear that engine, from the cockpit, with my mind's ear. It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

So what's the story on this car? It looks VERY original - so unlike most of the 'over-restored' 60's racers normally seen??? -- Curt

Wow those are great pics. I have never seen one in person but would love to. The interior picture showing the pedal cluster leads me to believe that this car would have been a real bear to "left foot brake", with the steering column splitting the brake and clutch pedal no? Or didn't they ever have the need to in this car?
It is beautiful |

As the story goes..........this car ran Le Mans once and then was used as street car since. It had some fresh mechanics 20 yrs ago and hasn't been touched since. Maybe Wayne will buy it!

I'm sure it's worth a whole lot...but not quite as much as that Shelby Daytona in the background
I'm sure Jerry Seinfeld would take it if he could.Nathan

Sigh....
I bought the same video tape that Curt did a while back that features the 906. I'll often load it in just to listen to the 1 minute of incar video time. I don't know about anyone else, but I just love the way 906's look. One day someone is going to start making replicas. Given the 550 and 356 replicas that abound, you'd think that someone could make a 906 replica for about $40K (not that I have that kind of money) or a kit for less. It would be the perfect DE car!

Wow. Looking at those pictures left a hole in my stomach like seeing an old girlfriend. My life is not complete without that car...
That's a similar engine setup that guys are racing in historic 911S 2.0s. Today, they rev to 8,400 to 9,000 RPM and make 230-245 HP. Put that in a 906 chassis weighing 1,350 pounds... Beck is making "improved" 904 replicas, which would be a fantastic track car as well. While I love the 904, the 906 was a superior race car with a better and lighter chassis and improved aerodynamics. Oh, and a better engine. Yeah, a 906 replica would be the ultimate track car! Sign me up!

The 906 is one of my favorites, as well. Probably because of both the looks and the 911-based motor. Here's a cool sketch:

Speaking of over-restored, this is an appropriate time to remind the Pelican happy campers that they should make a monthly visit to:
www.gunnarracing.com To see if restoring a 904 or 906 is easy or hard. I'm not so picky, I'd take nice and original or over-restored ![]() By the way, if anyone wants an incredibly true replica (alloy body, chassis from original plans, blah blah blah) of the Shelby Cobra Daytona, I can (seriously) probably arrange one for a large amount of money.

There is a BIG lawsuit now over who ACTUALLY owned the car and whether it was given/sold/traded/ (insert your favorite deal here) WAY BACK in the 70's or 80's I think........it was sold to a doctor back east but last I knew it was still being disputed...... The car didn't win LeMans....(no Daytona coupes did that)....but it set a bunch o' records at Bonneville and other places.....Prolly it's big claim to fame now is that it is original and unrestored / molested..... Saw several of these at the Shelby meet in Fontana back in July of this year.....prolly more in one place than you'd ever hope to see.....including one that is in bare metal with Bob Bondurant's signature in the engine compartment......

The bare metal (alloy) one might be the one built by John Ohlsen here in New Zealand - basically an "extra" factory car (John made the originals too) built in the late 90s.
John was my fiance's uncle, but unfortunately he died a few years ago. Ive seen another 1/2 finished chassis at his son's workshop. Very cool. They have an amazing scrapbook of photos, including one of John getting pretty badly burned in pit lane after a fuel spill.
