I just spent a while browsing the historical 'sport seat' posts on this board . . . and have a question:
Is it possible to rebuild the standard early 911 Recaro seat into a facsimile of the early Recaro sport seat? The Early 911S Registry classifieds has a listing for a pair of freshly rebuilt (Autos Int'l) early sport seats for $2500! Just wondering if a shop like Autos Int'l could transform my standard seats in my '72 to sport seats. Anyone? Best, Kurt |

Not likely... at least not for a reasonable price. The frames and adjustment mechanisms are totally different.

Marc:
I'm not after a perfect match to exactly replicate the originals, just a similar look and 'support'. Seems like with different bolsters and cushions put in the right places it might be possible. Of course, maybe I am just dreaming . . . again! Best, Kurt |

Kurt,
As was mentioned, the stock and sport seats --- and in fact the bases as well -- are *completely* different. Only the headrests are compatible. I think you're better off picking up one of the repros discussed in the other recent threads. Unless the bottom really falls out of the market, I doubt you will find usable (read: complete but ugly/thrashed) factory sport seats for less than $900/pair. You should be able to get a brand new set of repro RSR-style seats for less than that. Cheers, ------------------ Chris C. 73 914 2.0 70 911E Targa campbell.chris@gte.net |
