Help a brother out - Need fuse block wiring diagram for my 89 3.2, QUICK!
 

I was putting in the Classic Retrofit fuse block today. When I got all done I clearly have some wires crossed. I have been hunting around for a wiring diagram for my car, specifically the one showing wire colors coming into, and going out of the fuse block. I cannot find one though (found them for a 73 RS, and other 911's but not anything past 84).

In the Bentley Shop Manual, pages 55-57, it seems to show the fuse box wiring diagrams. The catch is my fuse block as 21 fuses, and they only seem to show 11 fuses. Am I reading it wrong?

On my phone so I can't open it to look.
Hopefully someone else can.

Thank you all. Those pics help for sure. Late last night I also found what I needed in terms of wiring diagrams. Its in the Porsche Manual posted above, page 953, and 975-977. I will report back later today, hopefully with success.

Chris - You could also post up pictures of your currently impaired fuse panel and we could help you determine what might be crossed.

Jonny from Classic Retrofit is on the forum here and quite active in supporting the value of their panels. Perhaps he will be able to join the conversation and help with diagrams or sorting of wiring.

There is a shot of my wires. As you can see they are diff colors from the 89 posted above. Many of his red wires are brown on mine, some of the white ones on his are grey on mine...very strange.

Obviously this makes trouble shooting very tough...

Some of those insulators look fried which might cause discoloration. Did you release some magic (smoke)?

Are any of the wires loose without ferrule?

Counting from the right, I think I see a potential issue with positions 7-10. The black with grey and the black with green are out of alignment top to bottom across the fuse. I think the order is wrong on the TOP row perhaps. Need to consult diagram to confirm.

look at pages 975 - 977 of the 911 84-89 Porsche Workshop Manual.

Guarantee that is correct

Some of those wires look like they got hot.
I'll post a pic close up of all my wiring but it will be a few days as on the road right now.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!! YAY ME (and us)! :D;):cool:

No Magic smoke was let out. I knot smoke is the magic ingredient in electronics, and once let out you cannot put it back in. :eek::eek: You are partially correct, the order was correct, they were shifted to the right 2 holes, then later 1. Easy to do give the instructions, the fact that the Classic Retro fuse block bridges the top parts (where needed) in the circuit board, AND as a result it has fewer screw terminals.


That is what I said above. :) That, combined with the pic provided above by spyerx, a picture on the Classic Retro website, and a lot of careful time analyzing things is what solved it for me. My wire colors do not match the wiring diagram at all (lots of brown where red should be, etc.

I believe they had in their past as well. It turns out SOME of the brown wires are red if you scrape every so carefully the insulator. The strange thing is the brown goes as far back behind the fuse panel as I can see. Like the car just got that hot...and is that old.


All's well that ends well. The car works again, and work better actually. I will post more when I do a little writeup on my experience. I have a few addendum to the Classic Retro instructions that will prevent (hopefully) others from going through what I did, and make the install easier.
