Confessional: What OCD things do you do to your 911 ?
 

I'll start.

1) When I polish the car, I notice the grime beneath, between & behind the Carrera script on the deck lid.
I just use a corner of the MF towel to get in there. I have considered getting a Q-tip, but have resisted each time.
The narrow swooping alleyway of Toledo after the "e" is particularly nettlesome.

2) Every time I get out of the car, I notice ancient grime around the hinges front doors, particularly on that upper door ridge to the right of the driver's mirror.
Today, I finally cleaned that area. Came perfectly clean with a few seconds of Meg's polish.

I'm bad. Replaced headlight bulbs in h5 and noticed a star washer missing on one of the mount screws. Had to replace. Also noticed a slight cracking in the headlight seals. Replace. Window felt on outer driver a little worn replace both sides, ALL FELT. The lists go on and on. Basically every little project turns into a bigger project for me. I expect to have all parts replaced on the car in the next 12 mo other than the body and engine/tranny. Trust me, I'm the guy you want to buy a car from lol.

My ocd is my pelican thread on my car build. I use it to compinsate for not having my car for the last 9 months.

NOTHING!!!! My 911 is a car for transportation......I keep it clean, but I am way far away from OCD!!

Like many here, my steering wheel is smaller than the standard wheel and the speedometer and the oil temp/pressure gauge are canted left about 25 degrees. But the remaining should be straight up and down. I have adjusted the speedometer at least three times in the 4 months I have owned the car. Same goes for the clock. "It's straight, it's not straight.....etc., etc. Honey, come look and tell me what you think." Response.....:rolleyes:

I do this on every vehicle I wash/detail:

Clean and dry the inside of the fuel filler door.

After waxing, I use a cloth to clean any residue from between the panel gaps.

I use my leaf blower to get every drop of water from the nooks and crannies. I can't stand water trails on a freshly detailed vehicle.

Nobody cares but me yet I still do it every time.

...and I thought I was bad, putting floor mats on top of my floor mats.

I recently removed the floor mats, the ones on top of my floor mats...but only so I could make directional vacuum/shampoo stripes when I detail the car.

I have a rubber "enhancing" goo, I apply to all the black bits every couple drives or whenever they get dusty. This includes wrapping a screwdriver with a rag to get into the bumper accordions and targa seals...ya know, to keep 'em fresh.

I quick detail with a 2 towel system every time I take the car out and put it away.

Which sounds nuts but if done properly enhances the shine per application and mitigates the need to actually wash the car. In a normal driving season, I usually go 2500-3500mi and only wash the car with water 2-3 times.

I've washed it once this summer(spring?). There are few things I hate more than car washing.

Fortunately, I've made a deal with a local buddy to wash it in exchange for working on his M3. Suits me.

I no longer clean my cars the old way.

I am a huge proponent of the "rinseless car wash"

Damn!! Why didn't I think of that. I will be cleaning my accordions tonight!

I also Quick Detail every few drives. Takes all but 10 mins. to do the entire car. And keeps the cars trivial to clean. Sort of like not letting the lawn get too long.

I don't have the 911 anymore but I still keep our DDs clean.

I am going to try the waterless wash stuff. Thanks for the tip.SmileWavy

I just wipe it down with a detail spray every few drives or if caught in the rain. Haven't washed the car in a year or more.

Someone posted a link to the Ammo NYC guy a while back. I have been watching his YouTube videos. I like stuff like this because it makes me feel like I'm not alone in the universe. Actually, I feel better because there are people more OCD than me.

Constantly tuning the carbs even though they are perfect and tweaking the timing even though it is optimal, convinced there is another 1/8th HP in there that I will be able to feel the next time I floor it.

I know it's in there...

The last time I had the engine out, I spent two weekends under the car detailing the engine bay and the underside of the car. Last year, I jacked up the car really high and hit the whole bottom with the pressure washer. Then, I jacked up the other side and repeated. Yes, I have issues.

Can go a year without washing but I'll turn the car around if the windshield glass needs cleaning inside or out. I have hit the store when out of town to buy glass cleaning products. Also, if in the car for a few days on business or pleasure and staying in hotels, I'll bring out towels and wet cloths and wipe down the dash, seats, interior in general to remove dust and spills. Stuff I have to stare out when driving. Impossible to keep the exterior clean during travel.
