Fun With Fiberglass!
Last week before i fixed my heater motor, I was thinking about backdating my heating system to the pre-aux.motor style.
I was wondering about fabricating the pieces required out of fiberglass. I picked up a fiberglass repair kit from a local Bubba auto parts store and went to work. This was strictly a "hey, I've got nothing to loose" sort of thing. I removed the right side piece of engine tinware and started making a huge mess! Here is a picture of the result. I was planning on cutting an opening in it and laying more 'glass on top of it to form the portion that the hose would attach to. There's no sense in finishing it now because I got the heater blower motor working, but it put the bug in my brain! Now, i'm looking at what else I can make with the fiberglass (short of a targa top)! I'm thinking about removing my SC foglights and cutting square holes for brake/oil cooler vents and fabricating some ducting to get the air flow to these components. Or making a oil cooler scoop to fit in the side marker light hole. Hey, it was fun!

Why stop at fiberglass? Go for carbon fiber!
![]() I have one of the early pieces if you want it - I think it's a left one. It came with my VW double cab pickup, if you can believe that!

Dick,
What Lee is referring to is the fact that the 3.2 guys "blow past his slower SC because of our extra power".... He is envious I am sure but does not want to admit it while he holds the office of president... ![]() Joe

Hey Leland,
Presumably you used the original tin as a form? What did you use as a release compound?

WRT ducts in the front valence, unless you're looking for extra work, just get a used Carrera (there's that word again) valence and cut the fog light brackets off. That will allow you to fit a set of BSR bumper ducts in there. I installed a double duct on the pass. side (one for oil cooling, the other for brakes) and a single on the driver's side for the brakes.
I found a used valence on Ebay for cheap so I could preserve my original one. Works like a champ and looks almost like it meant to be that way.

Dick,
THATS WHAT HE MEANT! He got the blower working again as he needs every little bit of push to try to keep up with a 3.2! Its becoming clear now! ![]() Now George is showing him that Carrera parts work on a SC so the end is near... Joe Ps wonder what his retort will be and when?? !! I can feel it coming right now!

Man am I getting hammered for that signature or what...
All banter aside (note that my organization never gets sucked into this kind of name calling/mud slinging) let me answer the relevant questions here... Chris, I did use the original piece as the form. I thought long and hard about what I should use as a release agent. At first I was thinking along the lines of Crisco.... but since I couldn't find any or even a can of Pam, I just settled for WD-40. I just put a light coat on the tin, and it worked ok... not wonderful... it required a bit of tugging... but it did come free alright. George, I actually do have a Carrera valance up in the attic... and I do plan on installing it someday, but it is one of those things where it would almost require having the whole car painted so I figure I can just hack on the old valance for fun as it is fairly dorked up under there... ....

Dick,
A very important thing has happened here! Leland admitted that he is hiding Carrera parts in the house and my guess is that some of them "migrate" to the SC when needed. This must be why he will not address the issue of SC vs Carrera... as his SC may actually be a hybrid! Joe

perhaps the "bra" and mirror covers hide the truth......... it does make me sick to the stomach that the president of the scwdp no less, has a horde of carrera parts in his posession. maybe its the r & d dept. of the scwdp studying the superior carrera piece by piece.......

PAM pan spray (remember that) works quite well also.
