What type of passenger mirror do you have?

I have an 86 and my passenger side mirror does not have "items in the mirror are closer than they appear" type glass. In fact it may slightly magnify things. When I started driving it after it sat for a while I got startled the first time I changed lanes. I looked in the center mirror and saw I had plenty of room. When I did my normal double check of the side mirror I thought I was going to hit the car since it was closer than I expected to see being conditioned from my other cars that items look smaller than they are.

What type of glass do you have in your mirror? Is it neutral, magnify or reducing?

I have a convex mirror on mine, so it slightly reduces the image, giving you a wider field of view in exchange. I feel it's a necessity on the passenger side. When I got the car it had a flat mirror, which I found pretty much useless, like peeking through a key-hole. I got it from our host, part # 911-731-035-12-OEM, which should fit your '86 as well. I see it's NLA right now, but it maybe it'll become available again in the future. It does not have the " objects are closer..." text, even though it's a Porsche part. You could always get a glass shop to cut you a mirror out of convex glass.

The convex type is what I expect from that mirror. I will see if I can find replacement glass for less than the value is the car.
